Teeth Whitening

Why have my teeth yellowed?

Teeth become dull and yellow for a variety of reasons, but only some of them are within your control. The foods and drinks you consume can stain your enamel. For example, coffee, tea, colored sodas, red wine, and even some fruits and vegetables are culprits. Smoking and chewing tobacco are notorious for their effects on the color of your teeth, too. If you don’t have good dental hygiene and see the dentist regularly, plaque buildup might discolor your pearly whites.

Other causes include:

  • Genetics
  • Disease
  • Medications
  • Aging
  • Excessive fluoride
  • Trauma that disrupts the enamel formation

Why do in-office tooth whitening?

Messy at-home strips and paint-on whiteners are available, but they’re not always convenient. They take a lot more time than one office visit to Lee Dental, where you’ll get excellent results. In addition to being efficient, in-office whitening is also more effective and can get at stubborn stains an at-home system just can’t.

How does ZOOM2 Teeth Whitening work?

ZOOM offers a number of teeth whitening systems. For most of them, the dentist will apply a hydrogen peroxide-based solution that, when activated, stimulates the bleaching of your teeth. Hydrogen peroxide breaks stains down to make them less concentrated, so they’re harder to see.

It typically takes just one office visit to achieve the whitening results. During the session, your treated teeth are exposed to a special LED light that activates the solution. Results can reveal coloration that’s eight times lighter than when you started.

What if I have sensitive teeth?

Talk to the dentists at Lee Dental to make sure you’re a candidate for ZOOM whitening. They’ll take precautions during the whitening process to minimize discomfort for those with sensitive teeth, but ensure you still get great results.

Will teeth whitening work on all stains?

Yellowing teeth usually respond well to whitening, but brown or gray stains are unlikely to see much improvement. Caps, veneers, crowns, and fillings are also not affected by whitening solutions. And, if the discoloration in your teeth is due to medication or an injury, it won’t respond to the ZOOM system.
